An honor female student who is also a church choir member became the latest victim of extra-judicial killing linked to illegal drugs in the province of Pangasinan.
The police identified the fatality as 22-year-old Rowena Vergara Tiamson. Her body was found dumped by the roadside hogtied and with a bullet wound to the head in Barangay Parian in Manaoag last week.
Found beside her was a cardboard with the words: “Huwag tularan. Pusher” [Don’t follow (her). Pusher].
Authorities believed a vigilante group is behind her execution.According to the victim’s relatives, Tiamson was an honor college student and an active choir member of a local church who often joined amateur singing contest.
It was almost impossible to believe that she was involved in illegal drug trade in the province, they said. She was supposed to graduate this coming October with a Mass Communication degree.
Tiamson’s death has shocked netizens and many have suggested she could be a victim of a mistaken identity.
The victim’s friends also used the hashtag #justiceforRowena on social media to condemn her death, while some paid tribute to her singing prowess.“Napakabait na tao ni ate weng. Kasama ko sya sa pangasinan Idol finale sa iisang room lang kami. Napaka humble sa tuwing kausap ko sya,” one post read. “May video pa sya saakin di ko binubura. Then i found out she was killed.”
[Ate Weng is a very nice person. We were together in the same room in Pangasinan Idol finale. She’s very humble whenever we talked. I even have a video of her which I kept. Then I found out she was killed.]
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police confirmed Tiamson was in the drug watch list before her death.
Tiamson was one of the three victims of summary execution in Pangasinan last week. All three – including a man and another woman – bore the same bullet wounds to the head and with a similar piece of paper found beside them claiming they were drug pushers.
