President Rodrigo Duterte promise for no demolition of homes unless residents are assured of relocation, because he will not allow homelessness during his term of service.
In his speech in front of San Beda Law School batchmates last July 17, in Malacañang Palace, Pres.Duterte openly condemned demolitions approved even when relocation sites for affected families have not been readied as he blasted the practice as “inhumane.
”“Kasi ‘yung walang mapuntahan, sirain mo ang bahay, parang aso. Eh saan pupunta ‘yung mga tao? Where will they find another shelter?” he was quoted as saying.
[Those who have nowhere to go to, you destroy their house, they are like dogs. Where will they go? Where will they find another shelter?]
In addition to this, the President said he will be considerate and “very generous” to victims of demolitions noting that he will look for funds to finance suitable relocation for them.
Unlike previous administration, that force demolition for those squatters are being observed.
As for the strategy of the present administration, Duterte pointed out support for new industries will be among the ways to be implemented to help improve the quality of life of those affected by demolitions.
Recently Duterte has appointed Vice President Leni Robredo to head the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).
Robredo, for her part, said she will do everything to make the agency useful to the homeless Filipinos.
