Naturally occurred steroid lanosterol is capable to melt away the cataracts and stop their coming back when administered to patients through eye drops, claim scientists in California.

If this is proved that humans can use it this ingredient will be sale as non invasive treatment for special individuals with moderate shapes of cataracts.

The first thing that scientist have discovered is that lanosterol can block the cataracts. This happened due the observation of two Chinese child. Upon closer examination, it became clear that the children shared a mutation that blocked the production of the steroid lanosterol.

After procedure of tests and various examinations they published that the team tested lanosterol on donated human lenses and live rabbits and dogs. Results repeatedly showed that lanosterol was able to significantly shrink cataract size.

Cataracts will develop when protein in the lens builds up and prevent light from getting through. It is very expected to be developed in older age, but this doesn’t mean that it can’t be developed at early age.

Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide and the leading cause of vision loss in the U.S. Currently, the only treatment available for cataracts is surgically removing the clouded lens from the eye and replacing it with an artificial lens.

Beside that removing cataracts surgery is easy and safe, this will help 50 million Americans from blindness.

Despite not yet being administered, the study is already causing excitement.
