Ignorance of the law excuses no one,so better read and always be aware of new laws and other bill.
A lot of accidents have been caused by texting, calling, and even just by using your phones while driving. It has been a problem to stop these accidents from happening, especially because no law has been passed concerning this type of behavior.
However, to some extent a bill has made its way into a law, which is now known as Republic Act 10913 (Anti-Distracted Driving Act). This law penalizes drivers who are distracted while driving on the road or even during a stop behind the stop light.
Defined as “using a mobile communications device to write, send, or read a text-based communication or to make or receive calls,” and “using an electronic entertainment or computing device to play games, watch movies, surf the Internet, compose messages, read e-books, perform calculations, and other similar acts.”
First offense is PHP 5,000-10,000, second offense is PHP15,000 and three-month suspension of license, and third offense is PHP 20,000 and revocation of license.
Drivers of puv’s, school provided vehicles and common carriers with “volatile, flammable or toxic materials,” and drivers who commit distracted driving within a 50-meter radius from school premises face a heavier fine which is PHP 30,000 and suspension license for three months.
