Lips take a lot of abuse and constantly exposed to irritants. They lack the protection compared to our different body parts. They have no oil or sweat glands.
Our lips are overlooked or downright neglected. Lips are used as a diagnostic tool in both Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. It enables to determine what your body needs.
Here is what you should be watching out for:
If you suffer from sensitivity or allergic reaction with foods or other substances. Consult your doctor if you experience itchiness, pain or hives.
Also, Crohn’s disease, may lead to lip swelling.
2. Cold Sores
Gladly, cold sores aren’t a harmful virus – they are caused if you are run down, stressed, need to catch up on sleep or should be wearing sunblock on your lips.
Within 7-10 days, it can be clear up without treatment.
Lipsticks, glosses, balms or even your toothpaste can cause tender lips.
Mild sunburn can also be a cause because our skin is so thin on the lips, this area will often be affected long before the rest of the body.
4. Cracking Around the Mouth
It can be quiet painful and can be caused by a variety of nutritional deficiencies.
Lack of iron means that skin cells can’t regenerate as quickly, leading to broken skin.
5. Dryness and Chapping
Dryness and chapping are most problems individual suffers. This is cause by lack of water intake or can lead to dehydration.
Healthy advised, avoid licking your lips. Your saliva dries out the thin skin further and aggravates the dryness and chapping of your lips.
Healthy lips should be a pink or red color.
Slightly blue lips can signal anemia (an iron deficiency) or a lack of oxygen in the blood.
Discoloration is caused by cigarette smoking, alcohol abuse and regular narcotic use.
If you have pale lips it may have to dk with heart conditions and lung problems both affect the amount of oxygen being carried in the blood.
8. Red Ring Around the Mouth
The ‘red aura’, or red ring occurs to a common foods like wheat, dairy, soy, or too many sodas.
Benzoic acid causes sodas to be fizzy and it is also an ingredient in toothpaste. This type of acid must be avoided.
Tips to have that red lips:
o Always stay hydrated by drinking lots of water.
o Eat a well-balanced diet and address any nutritional deficiencies and food intolerances.
o Use sunblock and lip balm for protection.
o Don't stress yourself out and get enough sleep.
o Use only all-natural or homemade lip products and toothpastes.
